Welcome ...

Decade of the Diaspora

We offer exclusive retreat to the knowledge and triumphant stories of heritage, with an eye toward building for today. AFROCITY excursions and workshops detail narratives of global diversity and the legacy of Africa in Virginia and around the world. Our walking tours, presentations and projects guide for remembrance, expanding the interpretation of communal landscapes, and open the way for new meaning in education and lifestyle.

Walking tours depart from Main Street Station of downtown Richmond by APPOINTMENT. Explore Shockoe Bottom and the African Burial Grounds.  Highlights of the tour include the Farmers Market (black entrepreneurship), the Richmond Slave Trail (second largest trading district of the enslaved in the United States) and points identifying classical periods of African history and culture including the Tekhen Monument (built by African hands) and the Egyptian Building.

"... the History of Slavery presentation was tremendously enjoyed by students. It is my hope that your insight regarding the importance of self-awareness and cultural identity will be long-lasting and impactful in students' lives."   Richmond Technical Center Faculty

"I've lived in Richmond almost all my life, yet I've never seen, or should I say paid enough attention to the landmarks on this tour, much less their significance. The tour guide is friendly, informative and culturally affirmative. This tour is a must for everyone of African ancestry." Oyin Oluwawemlmo

"The tour was a transcendental experience. Thank you for putting together a memorable visit." Spencer E. Jones III
